Announcing our New Director of Education - Rabbi Amanda Schwartz

We are pleased to announce the appointment of a new director of education for Congregation HEA. With the help of our diligent search committee - comprised of senior staff and religious school parents who volunteered their time - we have found Rabbi Amanda Schwartz, a talented Jewish educator with a passion for creating engaging and innovative Jewish experiences for learners of all ages. We are confident that through the warmth of her personality, her exceptional leadership skills, and her deep knowledge of Torah she will be a fantastic addition to our team of professionals. We look forward to formally welcoming Rabbi Schwartz when she begins in her new role in June. In the meantime, we would like to share with you the following message to the congregation from Rabbi Schwartz.

Hello! My name is Rabbi Amanda Schwartz and I am very excited to be joining the HEA team as the director of education. I grew up not far from HEA and recently moved back to Denver with my husband, daughter, and dog, after living away from Colorado for many years. I was ordained as a rabbi and received a master's degree in Educational Leadership from the Jewish Theological Seminary in New York. As a rabbi-educator, I lead through educating and I view all interactions as potential educational opportunities.

There is a story in the Talmud that explains how one famous rabbi knew that two of his students would also become prominent rabbis from a very young age. Recently, when I was teaching this text, one of the students asked if my rabbi knew when I was a child that I would become a rabbi too. I responded that I sincerely doubted anyone would have suspected I would become a rabbi because up until the age of my Bat Mitzvah I did not enjoy Hebrew school or going to synagogue. Thanks to a relationship with a vibrant rabbinical student during the year leading up to my Bat Mitzvah, my relationship to Judaism was transformed. This one relationship opened the door to many other positive relationships with educators and rabbis and helped me develop a deep passion for Judaism.

My goal as a rabbi-educator is to lay the foundation of positive Jewish experiences so that my students get a taste of all that Judaism has to offer and become curious Jews. I am so looking forward to getting to know all of you and learning with you!
