The Historical Roots of the Shmita via Zoom

Thursday, September 23, 2021 17 Tishrei 5782

11:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Like many festivals in the calendar derived from the Torah, the Shmita has its roots in agrarian norms. In this talk, CU Professor Samuel Boyd will look at the historical roots of the Shmita, beginning with the passages in Exodus 23 and Deuteronomy 15. He will talk about some research on this practice in the biblical law, and then trace the evolution and importance of the Shmita in Jewish thought over time.
Presented by Professor Samuel Boyd, Assistant Professor of Religious Studies & Jewish Studies University of Colorado Boulder - Program in Jewish Studies
