Choir

Singing together is a large part of HEA community involvement, from the launch of Shir Hadash services to the inclusion of a choir in the traditional High Holiday services, the creation of Levi’im service leaders, and the exciting and participatory HEA concert series. We are now excited to announce the launch of a new HEA choir initiative.

Mission Statement

The mission of the SHIRU! is to enhance Jewish identity and community engagement through lifelong involvement in choral singing.

SHIRU is comprised of three choirs:

  • Nevatim (sprouts)– Kids choir for grades 2-5 Thursdays, 4:45-5:45 PM
  • Kaftorim (buds)– Youth choir for grades 6-12, Thursdays, 5:50-6:50 PM
  • Prachim (flowers)– Adult choir, open to ages 13 and up, Thursdays, 7:00-9:00 PM

2026/2027 Season

We are excited to launch our second season of SHIRU! There will be three rehearsal sessions, each culminating in a performance. Singers may register for any number of sessions. Registration fees are discounted for those who register for all three sessions.

New singers, sign up for an assessment using the buttons below. Assessment dates are: Tuesday, May 25, 2026, 5-8PM, Sunday, 6/14/16,  2-5PM, and Thursday, 6/25/26, 5-8PM. If none of these dates are convenient, please email Leah Peer , or Alice Fasman to schedule a different time.

We ask all participants in SHIRU! to make a donation to the HEA music fund to help cover the program’s costs. Cost should never be a barrier to participation – there is an option to pay what you are able.

Session I High Holidays

  • Prachim (adults) 7/9/26-9/20/26 – sing the first morning of Rosh Hashanah, and Yom Kippur morning traditional services
  • Kaftorim (teens) 8/6-26 – 920/26 – sing at the family and congregational Kol Nidre
  • Nevatim (kids) 8/6-26 – 920/26 – sing at the family and congregational Kol Nidre

Session II Hallelujah! Singing the Psalms, a joint concert with all the choirs

  • Prachim (adults) 9/24-26 – 1/24/27
  • Kaftorim (teens) 9/24-26 – 1/24/27
  • Nevatim (kids) 9/24-26 – 1/24/27

Session III Through the Narrow Place! – Heading to Pesach, a joint concert with all the choirs

  • Prachim (adults)  2/4/27 – 4/18/27
  • Kaftorim (teens) 2/4/27 – 4/18/27
