We Welcome Amy Karp as Director of Engagement at HEA!
We are thrilled to share the news that we have hired Amy Karp as our Director of Engagement at HEA. Amy comes with decades of experience in synagogue engagement, membership, fundraising, and programmatic leadership.
Along with the depth of her experience in synagogue engagement work, Amy brings creativity, skills as a relationship builder with excellent communication skills, and an outgoing personality.
Amy will begin her full time position at HEA on March 1, after she has had time to relocate to Denver from Chicago, where she currently serves as Director of Engagement and Malkin Family Program Director at Anshe Emet Synagogue. We look forward to having all of you get to know Amy and her husband Dan.
Although she won’t be starting for a few months, we are excited to share that Amy will be visiting Denver this coming Shabbat and we encourage you to join us at services and kiddush lunch on Saturday, November 4th to introduce yourself to her and warmly welcome her to our community.
We want to thank the lay and staff members of our Interview Team for conducting a thoughtful and energizing search, and share our respect and appreciation for the many strong applicants who applied for this position.
Below you will find a message written by Amy introducing herself to our community.

To the HEA Community:
Dan and I are excited to begin the next chapter of our lives in Denver and are looking forward to meeting everyone.
I am originally from Detroit, a proud University of Michigan graduate, who met my darling husband while swimming laps at a JCC pool many years ago. With two of our children and a few grandkids making their home in Denver, the timing seemed right to make the move west. Over the years, we have lived in Detroit, Pittsburgh and Chicago, and I have worked in the Jewish communal world for many years as an educator, youth director, and engagement professional.
One thing about me, I love Judaism. I love the excitement of holidays, the smells in my kitchen, the prayers of Shabbat and even the Jewish geography! It is my mission to find ways for others to connect in some way to this beautiful culture and religion that we all share. For some, it is the beauty of Shabbat. For others, it may be cultural or through family events, while some connect over a pickleball game in the parking lot. For the last 11 1/2 years, I've successfully programmed a wide variety of activities and events for young adults, newly married couples, families with young children, parents of teens, empty nesters, grandparents and seniors at my current shul that has over 1200 family units. I give my all to this work with an open mind, a creative soul, and the ability to listen to what is important for congregants in their lives. It is an honor to do this type of work, but I love it with my whole heart. I have a passion and a purpose and can't wait to get started at HEA to find the key for engagement in a new community.
