Youth Programs

Our HEART Youth programs consists of 3 chambers:

Chai School for 8-10th grade
USY Youth Group for 8-12th grade
Kadima Youth Groups for 3-5 grades & 6-7 grades

Our youth programs offer meaningful educational and social experiences for our students, while providing them the opportunity to connect with their friends. Our goal is to create a safe and welcoming Jewish community that fosters a sense of pride and belonging. Each program empowers its student board to express their choices and creativity in programing, and offers leadership opportunities to all participants. Both participation and supervision by the HEA Youth Director, Clergy and Education Staff are Integrated into all the programs.

Chai School for 8th - 10th Grade —

We are thrilled to announce that we are bringing back HEA’s Chai School. Chai School’s goal is to offer meaningful educational and social experiences for our teens, while providing them the opportunity to connect with their friends. Chai School creates a safe and welcoming Jewish community that fosters a sense of belonging for our teens and social/emotional tools as they mature into adulthood.

Chai School meets twice a month on Thursdays from December 2022 – May 2023 with a total of 10 sessions.  All teens in 8th – 10th grade in the Denver community are welcome to participate in Chai School.  Confirmation for the 10th Grade is intertwined in the program as well. Each session includes a 45-minute class by Cohort, dinner together, and then a 45-minute elective class.  Classes meet from 6:30 – 8:30PM at HEA.

  • Our 8th & 9th Grade Cohort will meet under the theme of Being a Jew in the Modern World. The 10 sessions will have a variety of topics related to Israel, Holocaust, Anti-Semitism, Mental Health, Respectful Disagreement, and Tools for Thriving as an Adult.  Amanda Eckert & Yuri Tavbin will teach this Cohort.
  • Our 10th Grade Confirmation Cohort will meet under the theme of Confirmation, the Next Step in Your Jewish Journey. The 10 sessions will have a variety of topics related to Jewish Ethics, Mentorship, Comparative Religions and Comparative Jewish Denominations. Confirmation will be taught by Rabbi Gruenwald & Rabbi Shulman.  Our Confirmation Ceremony is scheduled for Friday, June 2nd, 2023 with a Shabbat Dinner celebration.

  • All students will select from interesting electives through a Jewish lens, like cooking, sports, improv, and art. Please note that elective topics are still in the works and students will select their electives the first class.
