As you may know, there is a resolution pending tonight with the State Central Committee of the Colorado Democratic Party regarding the war between Israel and Hamas. The ADL and Jewish Colorado has requested that we let our voices be heard and take a stand against the resolution. If you would like to demonstrate to the leadership of the party and to anyone that may be a member of the Central Committee that you oppose the resolution, please take one of the three action steps identified below by JEWISHcolorado.
Sincerely, Rabbi Salomon Gruenwald
Dear Jewish community members, The State Central Committee of the Colorado Democratic Party will be voting on a resolution on July 1st weighing in on the war between Israel and Hamas. While we appreciate the attempt that was made to balance the language in the resolution, especially compared with some of the harmful, anti-Israel, and outright antisemitic resolutions that we have seen elsewhere, we ultimately believe this resolution fails to achieve that balance. We believe that this resolution is unproductive and divisive in a time where Americans, Jews, and Coloradans writ large need to come together to focus on solving the real and major challenges facing us right here at home.
Unfortunately, we don’t see a viable path to amend, so our position is that this resolution should be defeated.
The vote is set to take place on July 1 at 6:00 p.m., and if you happen to be a member of the Colorado Democratic Party’s State Central Committee, please reach out to your county party officers and ask them for the information on the meeting. If you don’t happen to be a part of that organization, there are still ways you can get involved:
Email the Chairman, Shad Murib (shad@coloradodems.org) and Executive Director of the Colorado Democratic Party, Karin Asencio (karin@coloradodems.org) and tell them why you think this resolution is harmful and unbalanced.
If your State Senator or Representative is a Democrat, reach out to them and ask them to vote “NO” and use their 60 second speaking slot to advocate against the resolution.
Forward this email to as many Jewish people and allies as you can think of and ask them to do the same.
We learned that this resolution was coming very recently, and shared our viewpoints directly with party leadership yesterday. While we are grateful they took the time to listen to us, we need everyone in the community to raise their voices and help us take a stand against this resolution.
