Tomorrow morning, our son Brayden, will be called to the Torah as a Bar Mitzvah. This momentous event has been a year-long process and a full family team effort. From weekly tutoring to Mensch Academy retreats, our priorities centered around this major life cycle event. While our whole family had to make adjustments this year, the memories that we have made far outweigh the things we missed.
Through the whole process, our family grew closer as we attended Shir Hadash services twice a month and constantly had Hebrew prayers sung through our house as Brayden practiced every morning. I will miss those early morning song sessions but know that Brayden will not… maybe he will even be able to sleep in. The Bar Mitzvah preparation excited all of us and even encouraged me to read Torah for the first time since my own Bar Mitzvah. Who knows, HEA may now have two new Torah readers?
We would not have been able to reach this celebration without the generations of our families who paved the way for this big day. The Bar Mitzvah is not only a celebration of Brayden’s coming of age, but is also a celebration of our families’ history and traditions.
