New Chief Executive Officer at Hebrew Educational Alliance
.
I am pleased to announce that the Board of Directors at the Hebrew Educational Alliance has hired a new Chief Executive Officer. Steven Levine will begin his new role on September 15 and will work alongside Caryn Osterman until Caryn’s last day, which is scheduled to be October 31.
I would like to first thank Caryn for her extraordinary efforts over the past 20 months. When the congregation really needed her talent, energy, and expertise, she stepped up and stabilized our finances, elevated our operations, and supported our staff. Caryn indicated from the beginning that her work at HEA was an interim role, and she graciously agreed to stay much longer than she had initially intended as we have navigated several major personnel changes at the HEA. We are forever grateful for her many contributions.
We are thrilled that Steve Levine will be joining the HEA team to build on the great work of Caryn, our staff, and clergy. Steve is a long-time member of the congregation and has been active as a member of the board and the executive board. Steve has served as VP of Membership, has been the primary contact and author for grant applications, and has been an active member of the finance committee and security team. Steve knows the congregation well and brings a love and passion for the HEA to his new position.
Steve is an attorney and brings senior leadership experience from his time at Sky Zone, Red Robin International, and the United States Olympic Committee. He is a past Board Director and President of the Risk Management Insurance Society, Board member of the Colorado Insurance Education Foundation, and a long-time board member of the Anti -Defamation League.
The congregation undertook an extensive and on-going search for a new CEO approximately twelve months ago. We closely followed a process to screen and interview many candidates from all over the country. We did not choose to move forward with any of the candidates, and it was at that time that Caryn agreed to move from Finance Director to Interim Executive Director. Upon reconvening our search, the board overwhelmingly felt that Steve represented the right fit to lead our congregation into the future and chose to offer him the position.
We are confident that Steve brings the necessary business and leadership experience to the role, and we are thrilled to bring in a CEO who already knows and loves the congregation. Rabbi Shulman has been integrally involved in the process and shared her thoughts as follows; “I have known Steve for quite some time and have worked closely with him on many synagogue issues and am thrilled to be working with him. Steve brings sensitivity and competence to the position, and I know we will make a great team, and he will be a wonderful addition to our very talented leadership team.” We have made a lot of changes lately, and I want you to know we are confident that we are moving forward positively to create a sustainable and thriving congregation. Please join me and the Board of Directors in welcoming Steve Levine as our new Chief Executive Officer.
