I'm excited to join the team at HEA as the new Youth Program Coordinator! I’m eager to start implementing programs that inspire, engage, and empower our youth as they navigate and develop their Jewish identities.
In today’s world, it’s easy for our connection to Judaism to take a backseat, even when it’s important to us. With sports, school, and other activities competing for our attention, we might find ourselves prioritizing everything but our spiritual practices. This week’s parsha, Eikev, reminds us of the significance of even the smallest mitzvot. When Moses instructs the Israelites on observing the commandments, Rashi interprets the word *eikev* to mean "on the heels of," suggesting that even the seemingly minor commandments hold great value in our connection with God.
This is a powerful reminder that small acts of observance, such as lighting Shabbat candles or attending a Shabbat dinner, can still create meaningful connections to our faith. As I embark on this new journey, I’m excited to explore how we can integrate these practices into the lives of our youth, helping them find deeper connections to their Jewish identities, one step at a time. I look forward to meeting everyone over the next few months!
Shabbat Shalom!
